Wandsworth is a district of south London, located in the London Borough of Wandsworth. It is situated 4.6 miles (7.4 km) south-west of Charing Cross. Wandsworth takes its name from the River Wandle, which enters the Thames at Wandsworth. East Hill in Wandsworth is an area of large Victorian houses bordered by the west side of Wandsworth Common. Wandsworth Common, set back from the river, at the top of East Hill, containing an area known locally as "the Toast Rack" that has some of the most expensive townhouses in London. Parts of Wandsworth are known as 'Nappy Valley' due to the larger numbers of middle-class, affluent families.
