"The world's first ever facility for the production of gunpowder was set up along the River Crane between Twickenham and Whitton. Unsurprisingly, explosions on the site were common and in 1758 one was felt as far as Reading!"

Whitton is perfect for us. We moved here last year from Balham to start a family as the schools in Richmond Upon Thames are highly rated. Whitton is the quiet part of Twickenham, where you get slightly more for your money. We looked at the Twickenham riverside area and neighbouring Teddington, which are also lovely, but we decided upon Whitton as we could get off-street parking for the same money and it's in the same postcode. The high street has just been revamped and the main train station is being refurbished, which is great as we both work in central London. We were concerned that there could be noise from aircraft (being in South West London), but Whitton/Twickenham is far enough from the airport that we haven't noticed it. Heathrow is a good 5 miles away, so it's not an issue – great for going on holiday though! Whitton is highly recommended.

Whitton is a lovely place to live, some beautiful leafy roads, great schools and good local services. The transport links are brilliant, I can be in central London in 30 mins by train and on the M25 in 10 mins by driving down the M3. I have lived in the area now for 5 years. What a lot of people don't realise is that Whitton is actually part of Twickenham, but house prices are slightly more affordable and often the properties are larger and have better parking. Moved to Waverley Avenue in 2010 and absolutely love the area. Had no idea that Whitton / Waverley Avenue TW2 was actually part of Twickenham until our driving licences came back. Whitton has all the benefits of living close to Twickenham's centre, but it is quieter, better value for money, you don't need a permit to park outside your own house and you have the same access to all the good schools as you do in Richmond Upon Thames. Highly recommend.

Whitton is very peaceful and calm. The residents around where I live are quite friendly. The commute is very easy to central London as there is a direct National Rail service to Waterloo. All other interesting areas like Richmond, Twickenham and even Heathrow are close by. There are very nice parks not far like Richmond Park (my favourite) and Bushy Park....I love this area....
